Getting Clamp-o-Trons to "snap" in the VAB

Is there some trick to getting the standard docking ports to 'snap in place' to the node on the center of a tank when building? It will align itself to the surface. But I just can get the darned thing to snap to the center.

Look at the tank from the side. Orient the port do the right side is pointed at the tank, now move it slowly towards the green connection node. As soon as the two nodes touch the port will snap into the rite spot.
