As you may recall, SESEOR has been a long standing part of the ongoing mission to fully explore the Mun. Recently, our highly trained astronauts have been progressively preparing the base for its modular construction. This is the base at current:

At current, the Crew consists of Scientists and Engineers. A few remain from the KerMun Lander Mk 4R "Voyager"

Well it seems thats that! The board for SESEOR have read the votes from the public and have given the go ahead for an investment for a base core for the base itself. The Module movers (the cra-b's) will come later

Updates on the core are coming

(note: following new ideas from the SESEOR research team, all construction has been classified and all work on the Base has been suspended until we understand our new technologies we have)

(note: the base needs a name!)

Touchdown!

That's right ladies and gentlemen, SESEOR has just seen a new module landing. Due to unusual leg movements, several days have been cancelled due to levitating modules (don't ask. just don't):

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get some images of the work... yet. I did this today because it turned out I was far to busy on the weekend :(

The Rover, Arka, 80% solar powered touched down a fair distance from the base. Still in control, KSC handed over control to the base team which began tests to make sure it was in good condition. Test completed, the Arka was left to charge and for a new area to explore

Good news and bad news:

After roaming around the craters of the sub equatorial plateau, the sun dipped behind a cliff and temporarily took away light and power. Unable to steer, or see, the Arka probe valiantly flung itself over the crater it was studying. Out of control, the Arka probe careered into a dip and subsequently broke up into many pieces which in turn made a wonderful fireworks display

Here are some images of the liftoff to arrival:

Touchdown

Primary Crew, Expedition 1 [Exp. Juno]

Jerlin & Tomtrey steered the L6 lander "Corona" to a plateau on the surface of the Mun! Exciting news indeed!

w1UhwkW.png

The Crater the landed next to, "Corona Crater" is about 12.5 Km in diameter. You can see the Base postion; A small darkened area on the northern tip of Corona Crater, a plateau between some another crater ridge.

Corona Crater, Jerlin's Ridge - Primary Crew 1st Trip [Exp. Juno]

They observed several rocks near the landing site:

Higher up the ridge - Jerlin ponders on the location's name:

Jerlin: "I don't know what it is - a ridge to a flat bottomed crater would suggest that the land was mountainous, yet there are few hills apart from this one"

Tomtrey: "What are you rambling about man?!"

"What should we call it?"

"What should you call it you mean? I don't know Jerlin, think of something"

Jerlin ponders, Tomtrey drives on

Jerlin: "Beautiful... tranquil and calm"

Tomtrey stops talking to KSC "thought of a name?"

"Myself..."

"Yourself... yourself ridge?!"

"No! Jerlin ridge"

"Y'know, it kinda has a ring to it... we'll stick with that"

Tomtrey taps his helmet, then acknowledges some conversation from KSC. He then continues the ascent

Tomtrey: "Smile..."

Jerlin: "Its flipping mesmerizing"

" Really..." Drifts over to Jerlin "It is a breath taker.... come on"

Mount Doodby - Primary Crew 2nd Trip [Exp. Juno]

This trip, we went from the SESEOR Mun-base to the nearby crater. It was a medium trip, maxing out at 6.4 km away from Base

The trip began not far from the Base itself as the map will illustrate. A small group of rocks of significantly metallic composition were thoroughly examined:

Tomtrey: "In the light the rock glints" motions to Jerlin who's daydreaming and looks bored out of his mind "get some light on this sucker"

Jerlin: "on it"

"Marvelous"

The rock is lit up by a illuminating aura that engulfs half the rock. Tomtrey takes samples and scans them with his portable scientific equipment, them puts them in a sample bag

DlN94CA.jpg

Next rock, bear in mind these were only 25 m away from each other

hEWYyO0.jpg

Next stop, a trio of rocks collected together on a plateau in the crater. Tomtrey notes that they have rolled and have therefore dug up several layers of Mun rock with their descent

After crawling up the mild angled slopes of Mt Doodby, 2878 meters above the Mun's would be sea level, the crew leave a flag as a object of their achievement.

Corona Crater, Primary Crew 3rd Trip [Exp. Juno]

(Image Heavy)

As the Primary Crew conquers one goal, they taste curiosity. Unsatisfied, they leave for one more trip.

They leave for the vast Corona Crater.

aTu59jh.jpg

LlLNIeo.png

On approach, they realize that the crater has very steep walls and their descent will be bumpy

"Jerlin, hold onto something"

"Why?"

Rover jolts across ripples of regolith - Jerlin is nearly thrown out as regolith flings past his helmet

"I said hold on!"

After descending, they went left towards the dip mentioned on the map. They climbed a 30 degree hill, taking samples of the rocks on its slope.

Samples were taken of many of the rocks for data on there solar exposure

On their way down into the lower point of Corona Crater, a peculiar rock was spotted by Jerlin:

Jerlin: "What the deuce...."

Tomtrey, who'd been analyzing samples from the ridge for solar absorbing minerals, glanced up

"What is up with that one?"

8hs6umG.jpg

"Dude, its levitating!"

"No its not."

"But I can see the bottom..."

"Jerlin, you have been stumped by a illusion from a rock"

"but...but"

Tomtrey disembarks the rover whilst Jerlin stammers, then mumbles to himself as they prepare the science equipment

Again sampling both light and dark sides; Tedious as it might look, it gives interesting results (Authors note :sticktongue: Its not that tedious - its pretty calming)

jUWbXar.jpg

Tomtrey: "Fascinating" Turns away from the boulder to Jerlin "take a look!"

Jerlin: "what"

"The results - we can locate specific areas additional benefit on the base plateau with a simple algorithm and this data"

"Dude.... what did you say?"

"We can save energy" Puts screen away "That's not really the interesting bit though. The interesting bit is that the dating we can do - the solar rays have made sure that no extrodinary forms of energy can access the inner layer of the rock- we can figure out the makeup of the meteor that hit the Mun and when."

"Yea...."

Again, they descend into the Crater

The rovers on-board crew camera takes this photograph

The flag is planted by Jerlin in the Crater at the lower point they could safely reach. The plaque reads:

This flag was planted on the 29/6/13 by Primary Crew Cdr Jerlin. May the efforts of his team continue to inspire ever more imaginative ideas

20qQYuf.png

Flag planted, they follow a windy route and decide to miss the smaller hemisphere to their left capped off by Jerlin's ridge as it was covered by the 1st trip

Arriving Back:

NXheCg9.jpg

A significant amount of both geological and Scientific data was gathered in the exploration of Corona Crater. Analysis of the data shows that the Crater ridges are significantly more exposed to the sunlight as the rocks in the crater are full of solar wind particles. Many samples of the rocks were taken. The data on the exposure levels could significantly aid placement of solar farms for SESEOR Mun-base itself. Overall, Primary Crew's 3rd Trip was a success.

The Mun terrain overhaul has buried most of my work so SESEOR will have to be cleaned up. A lot. My flags are underground but my mission lives on!

With the new overhaul of the terrain, finding the new residence of SESEOR Munbase was difficult. But we found a medium-sized, flat area on top of the ridge from the 2nd trip in Exp. Juno. Unfortunately, one of our rovers broke so progress is slow - we may find a better place but its really difficult

Solar Farm Launch

A new design, a new launch vehicle, new launch time. Perfect.

Whats that?

After a orbital insertion, TMI and orbital burns, we go sub-orbital right down onto the Munbase

The shallow part of the crater, the rim isn't much of a climb so its easy to get out
