Tropes are ToolsIt's very hard to avoid them, and I'm not that creative.Besides, half the fun of writing is taking heavily used tropes and making them fresh. One of the best examples I can think of is the Belgariad, by David Eddings. Every possible fantasy cliche and trope, welded together with a remarkable story and metric tons of sarcastic wit.
