Help with a "wobbly rocket"

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

New to the game and absolutely loving it!

Trying to follow the mission outlined on the wiki to doc two space craft:

http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Tutorial:_Gemini_6A_and_7

I'm fairly certain I have built that rocket exactly as outlined - however when on the pad it wobbles. Once it's launched, it takes quite a bit of manual intervention to keep on target and more often than not I end up going in lots of different directions.

I'm trying to get to the bottom of whats wrong. I have read that using struts can help stabilize a wobbly rocket - any ideas on how to do this? Perhaps a screen shot or something? I'm finding it hard figuring out how you corrently strut a tall rocket like this one.

Thanks in advance!

That's not a good way to build a rocket in the current version of KSP and wobble should be expected. You need to sneak the struts up the outside where the collision boxes for the decouplers are smaller than those of the tanks (so if it doesn't work move around a bit and try again).

If you just want to learn the game stick to the normal tutorials rather than re-creating real rockets.

Thanks for that. I did suspect that it may be a bit of a dodgy design. One thing that I have not been able to figure out is how you attach struts to a rocket like that. i.e what type of strut would you use and how you would place them. Most guides suggest you use a strut but doesn't really go into detail how to do it. I have tried using the EAS-4 Strut Connector by clicking on a upper part of the rocket and attaching it to another part further down - but it doesn't seem to attach properly. Is that roughly how you do it?

Sorry - dumb question but been looking at it so long I'd like to know how finish it now!
