Flag File Size Limit?

Recommended Posts

I've spent the past hour making some custom flags and moved them to the Flags folder, only to find that the game isn't recognizing them no matter what I try. Yes, they're 256*160 and in PNG format...I'm wondering if there's a file size limit on the flag textures?

Here's an image that I grabbed from the "Flag MegaThread" that loaded in-game without problem:

A18BDbW.png~original

(file size = 39.1 kb)

and here's one of the images that I custom-resized for flag purposes:

ff7_flag1.png~original

(file size = 100 kb)

I've seen others successfully using elaborate (read: many, many colors) flags with file sizes ranging anywhere from 10 kb to 70+. I've searched everywhere but the only requirements for flags that I've seen are: 1) in the Flags folder, 2) PNG format, and 3) 256*160 px resolution. If there is a hard cap on file size, no one has seemed to mention it anywhere that I've been able to stumble upon.

I'd greatly appreciate any insight others may have on this issue, and whether or not there's a work-around. I'm probably overlooking something, but I don't know what yet >_<;;;

An underscore ( _ ) in the file name wouldn't cause it to go unrecognized, would it? I'm grasping at straws here...

Did you try to load your flag with gimp and just resave it with the default settings of gimp?

It reduces the file size to 63kB with no real quality loss (in my eyes).

If you are fine with it, I may do that for you, upload your file resized on imgur and provide the link.

Then you may try it again?

Tried exporting it through GIMP, but still no luck in getting it to show up in-game. I tried drawing a rough, basic custom flag in MS Paint and saving it as .png, but even that didn't work. Clearly it's not a file size issue like I initially thought...but a file type issue? Something isn't working out but it's gotten to the point where I'm just using the default flag images instead of scratching my head over this.

The one from the thread did work, but your ones didn't? I found that my flag that I made was a couple of pixels bigger than the required so I had to resize it before it loaded properly. Have you tried it without the underscore? Are you putting them in the right place? I too am clutching at straws here.

I could be wrong, but try this..

1) Go download the free "Paint.net". Install.

2) Open your flag, Select All your image area. copy.

3) Go to NEW paint drawing, and Paste your flag.

4) Do some proper resize. And save the image.
