Parachutes what are their limits?

Has anyone done any research into parachute deployment at speed? I ask because I'm trying to get to duna and back and do not want to waste fuel slowing down too much if my chutes are going to slow me down enough ant the end... M along with a little burn to touch down.

I'm guessing I will have to slow down enough to be around 200 m/s ??? And then let the chutes do the rest? Will they rip off? THanks for the help...

It all depends on how heavy your ship is, and how many parachutes you have. For light ships, simply pop the chutes when you've descended low enough, and watch out for when they fully deploy. Try landing on Kerbin first, if your parachutes break off, add more or reinforce them with struts.
