The KSP "Switchemup" Challenge

Recommended Posts

I have a challenge for you KSP mega engineers.

You must make a spaceship that can decouple the "command module" from the top of the ship and reattach it to the bottom side of the ship while either:

A. not going above 22500 Meters (above the surface of Kerbin)

or

B. on a (successful) flight to Dres, Jool, Eeloo, Laythe, Vall, Tylo, Bop, or Pol

The "Command Module" may include a maximum of two non radial attachments and as many non-radial attachments as is needed.

The "Command Module" must be on the top of the ship (relative to the surface of Kerbin)

Remember, creativity is key...

And Good Luck!

Can I just say this challenge really needs to be refined. For one thing I have just done this challenge on the ground, which constitutes not going above 22500 meters above Kerbin, however is very easy to do with a couple of detachable wheels. Another thing is this sentence

The "Command Module" may include a maximum of two non radial attachments and as many non-radial attachments as is needed.

Which one is is, are we allowed only two non radial attachments or as many as we like?

If you were to sort these errors out and then attempt it yourself, this challenge could be quite tricky. I'm not having a go at you, just trying to help sort out the challenge.

Hey Namesplosion

Welcome to the KSP forums!

What the other two posters are directing you towards can be found [thread=24898]here[/thread].

One thing that is strongly recommended is giving your own challenge a go, and posting the results when you open the challenge. This sets a mark for everyone to shoot for, and can help to clarify what you want the challenge to accomplish. In the case of your challenge, am I correct to assume the craft would need to be reconfigurable so the command portion of the craft can be moved to the side? If so, I think a lot of player's space stations already fit that category. Also, I'm a little confused about the "either <22500 or en route" requirement. With one you would be dealing with the atmosphere, the other... really nothing. Would these be in the same category? Also, how would someone go about winning this challenge?

Lastly, is this something that players are going to find challenging and fun? As I'm sure you could guess, that one can be a little harder to predict. Usually though, if the challenge is well planned and presented, you'll get some clever participants.

If you'd like to take a look at an example of a format that usually leads to a successful challenge, I'd suggest checking out [thread=27296]this thread[/thread].

Have fun!
