Eve Orbit Achieved!

YES! I have finally gotten an interplanetary mission done. It was easier than I thought, just need to know how to do it right. All I really did was stick a nuke engine on the lander stage of my Mun lander, stick a probe on top, and I was on my way. It was also a lot faster than I thought it would be.

Here's a little trick I learned. Set the planet you want to go to as your target. Find the descending node if your going to the inner planets, or the ascending node if your going to the outer planets. Put a maneuver node there. Adjust accordingly. You WILL get an encounter, even without worrying about inclination.

Next up: Probe landing somewhere!

Well, my first attempt at an unmannned Eve lander ended up in orbit around Eve because I ran out of fuel. I'm going to try a Dres landing, or maybe Moho, either way they don;t have atmosphere, so should be a lot like landing on the Mun or Minmus.

sorry to rain on your parade, but that's wrong: descending node doesn't necessarily mean inner planets, in the same way that ascending node doesn't necessarily mean outer planets.

other than that, good job: now it's time to test your skills on a juicy target like Jool :)

Well, after I returned a Kerbal from Minmus (sort of-for some reason the parachute cut off and I splashed int the ocean quite hard), I looked at the various moons and planets, and decided: an unmanned Vall landing is in store for the Jedi Space Program!

Assuming I don't give up halfway through this time, of course. :P

good! Vall is an interesting place...

you may want to check out the areas around the south pole, and see if something catches your attention :)

I can guess what you are referring to, and like the idea! :)

Although my first attempt (entitled the "Bertha Mk1") collapsed on the launch pad...
