I figured you all might want to know:

New comet might blaze brighter than the full Moon

http://www.astronomynow.com/news/n1209/25comet/

"A new comet has been discovered that is predicted to blaze incredibly brilliantly in the skies during late 2013.

With a perihelion passage of less than two million kilometers from the Sun on 28 November 2013,

current predictions are of an object that will dazzle the eye at up to magnitude â€â€16. That's far brighter than the full Moon."

Hale–Bopp was one of the most amazing things I have seen in my lifetime. I use to have a perfect view from my front porch and sat and gazed nightly at it for months. I am looking forward to this light show.

Hey, um... on the subject of comets, there was a really bright comet visible in Australia near the end of 2006/beginning of 2007, right? I was 13 at the time and there was a seriously bright one in the sky for a long time but I have no idea what it was.

It might be brighter than the moon, but unfortunately it will be so close to the sun that observing it will be difficult! Some people may be able to see it better near sunrise or sunset.

The Wikipedia article makes for interesting reading.

That would have been The Great Comet of 2007. Not at its best seen from the Northern hemisphere - you were lucky!

Awesome! I never did know what comet that was supposed to be. It was a pretty great experience. I was actually at a drive in cinema watching Eragon but the comet was much more captivating.
