Blender UV tutorial

Recommended Posts

does anyone know a really good tutorial for Blender's UV maps.

I'm having all sorts of problems getting what I want out of them, I keep getting faces over the top of each other, or faces backwards. I tried getting just a few faces at a time but then I could never get them scaled the same.

I'm just wondering if anyone can point me to a really good tutorial so that I can UV Map a cylinder without getting the texture skewed or inverted.

Mods: could you edit in a ? on the title so there is no confusion.

Ok, so I found Smart UV Project, and managed to get a flat export of my object, saved it out and rebuilt my texture in GIMP. Imported that texture into Blender, only to find, 6 of my faces were upside down,

Simple enough I selected those faces and rotated the UVs till it was correct. I went on to another object, only to look back at the main cylinder and now 6 different faces had rotated 180 degrees.

I swear I'm not crazy, can anyone tell me what's going on?

For simple objects mark certain edges as seams and just use the unwrap function, in a cylinder for example, just mark the edge loops on the top an bottom of the cylinder ( the outside edge of the circle ) and on of the edges that go the length of the cylinder. When you unwrap you should see 2 circles and a sheet of retangles on your UV map.

Now when you say your faces where upside down, do you mean upside downin the UV map or that the normals were reversed?
