Wait... I got to space!

I saw a thread recently titled "You will not go to space today," so I made this thread of fails that got to space. I will put mine up when I get to a computer that will not explode at the thought of KSP.

I've had my share of "abort to orbit" missions. Usually I forget to strut the main engines/tanks in place, so the rocket breaks in half at 20km or so. If the upper stage is powerful enough, you might JUST be able to put it in orbit anyway, and it's a great feeling when you do. Those Kerbals get to go home tonight! Or, well, whenever their orbit takes them over the KSC at least :).

I build the front part of the "Colin Campbell" and after finishing it was looking at a way to get it into orbit.

The solution was simple: Just put Mainsails underneath each tank column.

I was rather suprised that this monster got into space...

Come to think of it, If I remove the decouplers, it could be a SSTO....

Funny... mostly I just build and later see if that creation can even go to space...

So this is a "Wait... this thing got to space!"

Well this seems to qualify, sort of:

Yesterday I spent about an hour trying to (re-)dock with a booster stage that I forgot to remove the fuel from. Then, after several run-ins with the thing it finally dawned on me that it had no docking port :sealed:

My logic: part A and part B had been uncoupled by selecting 'decouple' on the docking port. Therefore, we can re-dock. Wrong! Only part A had the docking port, not part B.

Also I forgot to give part B any way to collect energy. Now I will have to design that fancy debris collector I saw on youtube the other day (forgot who'se it was) to de-orbit this thing... I can't assign the debris icon to it (it has no energy) and hitting 'end flight' feels like a bit of a cheat.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
