MIRV Missile - ICBM

Recommended Posts

Had the idea to make an ICBM and to make it a little interesting, it's a more modern MIRV design.

I originally wanted to make it a 3 stage launch system, but since i also wanted the quad-engine i had to cut it down to 2, otherwise it'd escape kerbin most of the time, making it a very inefficient IPBM :P.

As you can see, the missile is made up of:

1: Main motor

2: Second stage motor

3: Post boost vehicle

4: 4 warheads

5: Shroud

After the first stages burns out, the shroud atop the missile is ejected, then the first stage is ejected and the 2nd one kicks in, after the 2nd stage burns out this is then ejected and only the post-boost vehicle remains, with the 4 warheads attached, this then travels in its ballistic trajectory towards the target and finally the self-propelled warheads are released at a distance depending on desired spread.

This video is bad, but it shows what it does ;p

it's a simple craft, but if anyone want the .craft, gimme a shout and i'll upload it.

Looks nice, whats it's max range?

Well, in the video it traveled about 450-500km, with a less wasteful trajectory it should be able to make 1200-1500 if not more:)

Derp of physics:

Just launched the missile straight in the air, it reached a peak "altitude" of barely 2,868,905m, then hurdled back towards the earth hitting the atmosphere at 2,987 m/s, but then i found that i'd run out of battery, so i was unable to launch the warhead and the post-boost vehicle impacted the kerbin.

The thing is, it survived!, i lost 1 complete warhead, 1 probe core on another, and the "tip" of all 4, but the vehicle itself, batteries and half of the remaining 3 warheads survived the impact :D
