Consolidate Stage Icons

I'm looking to consolidate my stage icons. The list of stages on the side of my screens goes up and beyond the edge of my screen. I will have many similar items near each other but they don't consolidate into one icon, for instance those small separator rockets all stack individually. It's getting so bad I can only adjust my staging in real time as other items disappear from the list.

Are you adding parts using symmetry or individually?

I've been using both depending on what works at the time.

This is one of those niggles with KSP that's been annoying me too, but it's not a deal breaker for me, I can see others might find it so though. Even when you add things symmetrically, they sometimes group up as, say a bunch of 4 items in one icon, then sometimes they are 3 in one icon and one in another. It's arbitrary and happens with symmetrical additions sometimes. One thing I'd like is if you could group icons of the same part kind (i.e. LF engines, SRBs, decouplers) together manually to fix this issue and also group stuff that wasn't added symmetrically, which I occasionally need to do.

For cases like you just mentioned, where there is one that just doesn't join the group

It should, there's an easy fix. Lets pretend your working with 6 engines for this example.

So you place the 6 engines on the bottom of the tank closest to yourself, now staging shows a group of 5 and 1. If you mouse over the 1 engine in staging you will see the engine you placed highlight in the VAB.

Here's the fix. Spin the camera around to the opposite engine, pick the opposite engine up and put it right back down so your 6 engines all appear. The staging will have changes from 5-1 to 6

You can also use the scroll wheel to navigate the staging list if it goes off the top of the VAB screen.
