How to cluster engines

Recommended Posts

Title says it all: temstar has some kickass engine clusters in his series of lifters - and I can't figure out how it's being done.

Anyone care to write up a small howto for that?

Thanks! :)

I haven't seen the ones you are taking about, but he is likely using the Cubic Octagonal Strut parts to do it.

See here: http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/Cubic_Octagonal_Strut

You basically surface attach several of these cubes to the bottom of your rocket and they act just like attachment nodes to then attach your engines to.

If that doesn't make sense I can see if I can make a few screen shots.

The tail connector aerodynamic part is a very good way of doing it (and I think what temstar uses on his launchers). Basically, you attach the tail connector radially to your rocket, then the bottom of the tail connector has engines attached. You can also use the radial attachment points at the bottom of the rockomax fuel tank, then attach engines to those. If you combine both of these methods, you should be able to get yourself about 10 engines on the bottom of a rockomax tank, more if you really push it.

I'm not quiet sure what you're talking about. Is it just the engines or the tanks? Is it just that they are really clip into each other (because that's done with the debug tool F12) or are you talking about the classic asparagus staging? Maybe a link would be of some use...
