Oracle Exploration Vehicle

Recommended Posts

This is a very basic design I came up with yesterday for a decked-out exploration craft. The Oracle has 3 primary phases: ascent/orbit, long burn, and landing. It is designed for low- to mid-delta-v interplanetary jaunts. The lander and two radial-mounted rovers are designed for low-gravity, no-atmosphere environments, making it ideal for exploring moons and smaller planets such as Dres.

Its fuel capacity isn't that great, so inter-planetary burns must be planned and executed with some precision. It also isn't designed for round trips, so be sure to inform your two Kerbals that they should bring at least a change of socks. The lander has a Clamp-O-Tron Sr affixed to the top so a rescue mission could be sent to bring that back if you wish. The rovers, on the other hand, once detached from the lander, cannot be retrieved unless you have KAS installed.

While mostly stock parts were used, you will not be able to load the craft without B9 Aerospace pack installed. Parts used from that mod include the headlights for the rovers, the radial attachments for the nuclear engines, the RCS tanks on the lander, and the main lander engine.

So, without further ado, I present to you my Oracle Exploration Vehicle (slightly pic-heavy):

I'll add the .craft if anyone wants it. :)

EDIT: Download the craft from HERE.

I spy with my little eye.... B9 Parts! You tried to land a b9 craft out there, didn't you?

In a way... the parts scattered across the terrain in the pictures are actually from the interplanetary stage. I used it to decelerate until it ran out of fuel around 6km above Moho. Then I just dropped it and used the lander engine the rest of the descent. :)
