How do I get this thing on the Mun?

Recommended Posts

I recently got my very first spaceship to land on the Mun. And now I want to start on a Mun base. So I built this Living quarters type thing.

I've tried getting this thing to the Mun so many times it's embarrassing. I can't even get it into orbit. Sence I'm just a newbie I need some help on building a ship that can take this to the Mun. Any suggestions?

It looks fine to me :)

Those landing engines I assume do not have the necessary fuel to do anything but finish the landing, so you're going to need a "transfer" stage (about the same size as that lander) to put it in orbit around the moon and possibly to initiate the de-orbit burn.

For making landing easier, put a small docking ring right on the top in the middle in the landing orientation, so you can "control from here" and get your navball aligned properly for landing.

You're going to need to get your transfer stage and your lander in orbit, but assuming its about 30 tons total, you can do it just fine with a 6-way asparagus staged 2m launcher. cant give you a pic yet, sorry :/ I'm on the wrong computer. but it's simple, just connect a nice orange tank, small 2m tank (for heat absorption) and then a mainsail to your center stack. "stitch" that stack together with 6-way struts at every junction, all the way up until nothing above the "stitched" section weighs more than about 20 tons. Stitching is just a process of joining two stacks together (because the default joints are not strong enough) by using very short 3, 6 or 12 fold struts around the stack to connect it to the one above it. Next, attach a similarly sized orange booster in a 2 way symmetry to the sides of that main stack. strut it up to the center at the tops and bottoms. Add pairs of sepatrons to the side which will seperate it. remember that the center of the boosters mass when it's empty will be near the bottom. take that into consideration and but the sepatrons near the bottom too, to minimise booster rotation. Add a fuel line to that booster's bottom tank, leading to the bottom tank on the main stack. Duplicate that booster pair and add two more pairs around the center. connect the fuel lines in an asparagus-style and fix the staging. I know this is complicated, but I'm going to make a video about it soon so stay tuned :)
