New Processor

Hi

I'm getting a new processor for my desktop soon and I'm wondering whether this is likely to improve KSPs performance and how many parts it will take before lag starts?

I'm upgrading from an i3 to and i5.

How many GHz?

It's difficult to predict your maximum part count as it depends a little on the rest of your computer specs as well, eg. Graphics card, RAM, and possibly the quality of your Motherboard.

I'm getting a new computer in the next two weeks, and I think it'll be exciting just to test it's limits. I don't want any spoilers

Unity does not use multi-core, so unfortunately you'll only see a marginal increase based on the CPU's clock speed (GHz). It's unfortunate, but Squad can't do anything about it I'm afraid. :/

Upgrading from intel i3 2100 to intel i5 3570S both are 3.1GHz but the new one can turbo to 3.9GHz I think

Graphics is nvidea 550 Ti and have 12Gig of ram so neither of them are limiting the system.

I'm running a I5 2500 and I can get up to about 300 parts before dropping below 30 FPS, and I can get 12 FPS with 687 parts. (just learned that with my boat I made)

I can get to around 350 parts before a bit of lag starts. At around 450 its no longer fun to play.

That not entirely true. The types of calculations that are done in a game like KSP are physics based, meaning they are big in size and repeated often. The bigger cache and a higher clock speed will give the game a considerable boost in speed. KSP is a game that loves high clock speeds.

I have this same basic question. Im looking into buying a new processor, and I don't know if I should go Intel or AMD. My instinct is to go intel's haswell processor and oc it.

What socket you are using right now would be some awesome info. Intel chips seem to be good right now for single core performance.
