Two computers?

Recommended Posts

Ok, this one should be easy to answer.

I do have a big box at home that runs KSP.

But I am working in different places most of the time... I do have a kind-of-old notebook at home that should be able to run KSP as well...

So: The box at home is an iMac. The notebook is currently on windows but for that purpose would be changed to Linux.

Question is of course this: Is it possible AND allowed to install KSP from Steam on these two computers without buying the game a second time?

Since Steam actually uses an account (and of course it would be the same account and never used at the same time), this might be possible.... But since you can start KSP without Steam, it might count as not allowed.

Also, it might not work, because it's the Mac-Version on the box at home and will (or would) be Windows (or rather Linux) on the notebook.

I miss KSP when I am not at home.... this stint is two weeks... KSP-withdrawal...

If it turns out it is not possible and/or allowed, I might just bite the apple and buy another copy....

I think the only difference between the "normal" version and the "steam" version is the location in the file system.

But I doubt the MAC-version will work on a Linux or Windows box.

And that leaves the question open if it is within legal limits.

Steam will know what operating system that it's installed on and will only install the correct version of the game (if one exists). So if you go to install KSP through Steam on Windows, it will install the Windows version. If you do the same on a Mac or Linux, Steam will install the Mac or Linux version.

Also, when you buy a game through Steam you're buying a "license" to use the software. This license is tied to your Steam account and allows you to install the game on any machine where you can log in from Steam. In short, you can legally use Steam to install KSP on any computer you want.
