"physicssignificance" what is this?

Recommended Posts

I have found a line in a part.cfg of the strut cube that says:

PhysicsSignificance = 1

What does that do?? Does this perhaps allows reduction of physics calculations for a part so it improves performance for high part ships??

I can't find an explanation anywhere..

Landing gear uses "1" for the physics significance.

Full / "0":

Adds a bunch of components to enhance collision physics, like collision enhancers, PQS Collider for terrain collision, buoyancy etc.

It also seems to set the part to have it's own physical significance, i.e. that it will no longer respect the parent object's transform so it will transform accordingly to the physics it endures solely.

- Saying that, anything attached will respect this part's transform. CommandPod:PhysicsSignificance=0

- If the vessel root part is the one with this flag, it will automatically become '0'.

None / "1":

Doesn't make the above changes, and doesn't change much else from what I can tell?

"-1"

I think that this flag prevents PhysicsSignificance from being applied to a non-root part. Which seems the default setting.

Hope that helps? I can only comment on what I understand and may be completely wrong, so take my knowledge about this with a grain of salt lol. :)
