Change what part is the core

Okay, I've got a quick question.

I know it is possible to change the core part as of version 20, but is it also possible to change what part is the core part? And if so, how?

I started my rocket by building the rover, but on second thought that wasn't the smartest idea I've ever had...

You have to remove your original core part, then the next core-capable part you add will become the new core (and it will appear at the bottom of the VAB, probably inside one of your first stage engines.)

You can not point to a part and say that it should be the root.

What you CAN do is take your ship apart, throw out the current root and replace the part you want to be the root with the new root. Then simply re-construct your ship around the new root.

Okay, that's quite a shame. Would it be possible to do this through the editing of the save files?

I don't think it is impossible to do it by editing but rebuilding your craft from scratch is probably easier and quicker.
