Backing up saves

Recommended Posts

Alright this sounds really dumb, but how to properly backup saves?

I use as few mods as possible, since I find they kind of take the challenge away, also mods always cause trouble with updates.

So, what to backup? Just the save itself? The entire KSP folder?

Also, is it possible to 'lose' (corrupt) a save if you use mods and the game updates?

I guess if you don't introduce new mods between backups, all you need to save is the persistent.sfs and the vehicle files. To simplify things, I backup the account file, as I have a few different ones for testing and development as distinct from my actual game account.

Dig into your KSP file, find the folder "saves". Open it and you should see all of the individual save names. You can copy the entire "saves" folder to your desired backup location, or if you only change one save and you already have the others backed up, you can copy the individual save file to save space. Then I would label the date of the backup just to keep track. Save the whole file, because if you just save the persistent, then you will loose all of the ships you had in that save if it gets corrupted, etc..
