Soyuz with semi-stock space station core.

Recommended Posts

HELLO EVERYBODY!

I'm here to present to you, one of my rockets, inspired by Mr. Darth Lazarus and GusTurbo's own Soyuz line of lifting systems.

-MODS USED-

Ioncross crew support pack - by Mr. yongedevil

Modular Fuel Tanks - by Mr. ialdabaoth

Mechjeb - by Mr. R4m0n (I'm kinda poor when it comes to multi-tasking, so I ask MJ to take the wheel while I take the screenies. :D)

And now. Without further ado, here it is. The Soyuz (or Soyuz look-alike :D) Lifter with the semi-stock space station core. It might not be as cool-looking or as historically accurate as the real one. . . but it gets the job done. . . . so far. :)

Took me a few days, partly 'cause I've haven't been able to play several hours straight. . . but if you sum it up. . . I think it's about 5-6 hours? :( And sorry if it's a bit strutty, I'm kinda worried if the stock struts can take the brunt of the engines. I'm also gonna plan to continue this . . . slowly building a small space nexus and re-fueling hub. . . in an approximate 120km kerbin orbit, with all the fuel tanks and other resources needed to make everyone (including myself) go "Whoa. . . freaky". :D

-ABOUT THE MODS-

I've seen these mods a while back, but never tried them since it looked a bit daunting. I mean. . . making your own fuel configurations and having your 'lil 'ol kerbs needing breathing apparatus when in ships (It'd be cooler if they were to EVA and "take" a bit of oxygen from the tanks, a whole new level of KSP right there, but that's for another thread :))? But after gathering (making backups of my original saves just incase they all die in space) some courage, I tried them and messed around myself, and I was pretty darn amazed on how much depth the game suddenly had with it, and it's really fun making unique configurations for the fuel and engine mixes, not to mention designing the whole station because we'll need to accompany fuel of ALL kinds. :0.0: So yeah, let's hope this project won't go to waste.

Since the whole launch-to-orbit process is a bit image-heavy, I'll just post a link of the album instead.

-EXTRA: Fuel configuration -

Here's the fuel configuration needed (or at least what I deemed was needed) for the lifter. Since the modular fuel tanks mod resets the ratios of the normal liquid fuel and oxidizer to a slightly lesser value, I thought it was a good mix for the LRBs and the core stage.

The orbital stage uses liquid fuel and liquid oxygen as it's propellants which give a lightly larger amount of thrust and burn up a bit more easily, but with no change in ISP, so it's really just the final "push" that I was aiming for, and not needing any more adjustments other than completing the orbital burn to stay in space. It'll also have a nice amount of fuel to de-orbit itself at a 120km orbit too, who knows maybe it'll go higher with an even heavier payload. Don't hesitate to download the files and test them out for yourselves, and post your results here so everyone can see. :D

-CRAFT FILES-

This is the full pack, complete with the space station core, 378 parts of mayhem. XD

-NOTICE-

Action Groups: 1 = enables the station's solar panels 2 = extends the LES nose and locks the gimbal of the outer rocket pairs. . . ESSENTIAL to having a stable flight, since the booster clusters themselves do not have thrust vectoring/gimbal.

And this is the lifter only. It's a minus of 112 parts, giving you the computer-friendly (I think :() total of 276. :)

Well. . . . there you have it. Write your thoughts/opinions below, and I'll keep y'all updated by posting the other modules for the space station in this thread.
