Proper aerodynamic rockets

Recommended Posts

Because of the lack of realistic aerodynamics and limited part choices, KSP rockets tend to be rather un-aerodynamic. What are the best ones you've made that would probably actually be pretty good.

Here's mine.

The payload is obviously not aerodynamic at all, but the launcher is. It's 2 stage. What it's carrying is close to it's limit but it can achieve a stable 100km orbit. If someone who knew what they were doing was doing it, maybe they could lift more. I kind of wish there was a wider tank type so I could make something bigger without worrying about where I'm going to fit the engines and whether or not it can hold the weight of the upper stages without exploding (this was an issue in my design when I had another small tank on the second stage).

Isn't this subforum for exchanging craft? I just wanted to see what people have made, I didn't see it as much different to the "What did you do today" or "show off your rover" types of threads in general discussion...

I made this 100+ ton lifter based on the Saturn V, but larger. 100% stock.

One way of getting around the lack of larger-sized fuel tanks is to create the appearance of larger tanks with radial symmetry. Here, I encircled a 2.5m tank with eight other 2.5 tanks, for a total base diameter of about 7.5m.
