Lat/Long system

Recommended Posts

I've seen a few threads listing easter eggs at certain coordinates, and have even seen lat/long values for the vehicles that I currently have on the Mun, but how does the Lat/Long system work. Latitudes are fairly obvious; 90 degrees north is at the very top, and 0 is on the equator, but what are the longitudes measured from on the Mun. Here on earth we have the Geenwich meridian at 0 degrees, and everything is measured from there but I have no idea for the Mun, or for Kerbin either. Anyone know?

p.s. I don't use MechJeb so can't simply plug a coordinate in to a flight computer and say "take me there."

Not sure, the only way you can tell without mechjeb, engineer redux, or mapsat, etc, is to land a ship, and see what its coordinates are. Perhaps you could set up a system of marker flags and use them as a reference?

You could use the map sat plugin to generate your own mas of bodies and then either try to match by eye the features on the body against the map or use the gps unit that is included in the mod.

Pressing Alt+F12 and clicking "Show Flight Debug Stats" will show the latitude and longitude in the top right. However, it seems the longitude it gives is different than the one you see in map view when landed.

i have the same question, looking at kerbalmaps, the values they give are in coordinate form, and dont match in game. I would like to figure out how to convert them so I can plan a landing area on bodies such as Mun a bit better.

Anyone else use this that can offer insights?

Nevermind, got it.
