Make kerbals survive falls

It is too expensive to launch craft to recover kerbals from orbit, so it's easier to deorbiting them with an orbital

cannon(like Danny.... Did). But there is a problem: my kerbals always die, so is there a trick to increase the chances of the survival of your kerbals when they crash into the terrain?

Yeah. Kerbals can survive impacts better if they land on their head. Hold left-mouse-button and drag it around to rotate the kerbal while their jetpack is turned on. They're more fragile than they used to be. It's worth noting that under many circumstances kerbals are actually tougher than the stock command pods.

I did not know you could do that!

You rotate the camera, and Kerbals always orientate themselves with respect to that.

Alternatively, there is the EVA parachutes mod. You shouldn't need a canon to deorbit a Kerbal, they've got about 500m/s of delta V in the jetpack.

That's how I've done it.

I did attempt to use a canon to send them back up there though. Things got kerbalish.

My conclusion- stick with planes and rockets.
