Space Crane Design Help

Recommended Posts

Having some trouble getting a good Sky-Crane desing working.

The first 3 screenshots on my profile are of the craft in question.

Any tips, tutorials, or sample craft files would be greatly appreciated

EDIT: Ignore the very first craft; had to share a different rocket design to help out a friend

What exactly is the issue with it because we can only really offer basic tips and hints until then.

Try starting quite small, that design you have is very large compared to any thing I use even for rovers like that.

Perhaps it would be wise to remove some of those structural fuselages and replace them with fuel tanks or large girders

Example sky cranes

Also if you want to stick to your original design then i would advise sending the payload up after your sky crane then rendezvous in orbit.

Part of the problem with large skycranes and other puller designs is that the Gimbals on the rocket motors currently don't adjust for being above the Centre Of Mass. So, if your motors are high up, and you depend on them for steering, you'll find that the Pitch and Yaw controls end up reversed, and ASAS will be completely counterproductive. This is a known bug in the controls.
