Just a heads-up, your craft files should still work in .21

This is pretty relevant to my interests too. I presume this update will break any mods that add cockpits and (A)SAS modules?

DAMNIT! That'll then break some of my KSP X parts :(

Now I need to double check the control tab to see what has and has not been messed up.

EDIT: They are some of my more used parts too. >:(

Kethane: according to Majir, probably won't break.

Mapsat: Should be able to automatically adjust to the changed terrain (make sure to turn on "auto-update hilo.dat" in the settings)

RemoteTech: I don't think it'll break, but a new version of RemoteTech is in the works that is not planned to be backwards compatible.

Kerbal Engineer: no idea, but I don't see why it would break.

NovaSilisko just said on the previous page that .craft files with old SAS modules will automatically update to the new system. Should work for mods that add parts with SAS as well, right?

I imagine with the control changes to A/SAS that mechjeb will have problems.

I doubt it, all Mechjeb does is automatically control the attitude keys(it's just like its pressing q/e w/s a/d, except its a computer). In fact, the new (a)sas might actually help because MJ occasionally toggles sas to help keep attitude.

This is why I'm holding up on the update until mods are updated. I should have this option to not update, having the KSP Store bought version.

You can always set in steam for it not to automatically update your game. And if memory serves, Harvester did some magic to actually allow you to downgrade to the previous version.

That said, I like resets. Coming at the game again with a blank slate every now and again is fun. I can see why it would annoy a lot of people though.

I hope you're right, but I suspect it won't be that simple.
