Space Debris(real).

I was looking for a current picture of actual estimated space debris around earth and came across this:

Pretty interesting, sad, and scary at the same time.

I remember about 10 years ago my dad telling me about the amount of crap orbiting our planet and how one day it's probably going to be pretty difficult for us to even launch things into space. The amount of debris created from each collision is nuts, which in turn will likely cause more.

On the plus side, unlike KSP, if we do clog up space and make it impossible to launch, we'll only have to wait a couple of decades for the worst of it to de-orbit.

Yeah, providing we stop sending stuff up there for those decades

Some of the ideas they have for de-orbiting stuff were pretty cool.

Or we'll finally develop stronger engines and better lifters. Then we will be able to launch rockets without dropping boatloads of spent stages, fairings and the like. Skylon for example is very "clean" ship. What goes up, goes back down without leaving trash in space.

Throught the entire video, my thoughts were mostly: "This would be a great way to spot alien civilisations from the junk they put in orbit."

That's actually not a terrible idea, if you are already flying through an alien solar system near an Earth-like planet, just look for debris in space.
