The moon. That great big lump of rock that has fascinated humanity for thousands of years. 44 years ago on Saturday mankind first set foot on solid ground that wasn't on Earth initiating a second age of exploration...

Well, at least they tried for the exploration thing.

But never the less this is one of the most important moments of recent history and I felt I had to do something to recognize it, especially given the death of Armstrong.

A (probably) wise man once said "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery".

I'm not sure that's true, but it sounds like a good idea to me!

The mission was set: I would land an Apollo style mission at the Armstong Memorial on the Mun.

This will also appropriately be my first Munar mission since buying the game!

What are you smiling at, we don't even know where the memorial is!

Not feeling like waiting for my ISA Map Sat to map the Munar surface (the Kerbin one took 13 hours realtime at 10 times timewarp...) I decided to look it up.

Of course, I would still need to scout the location...

Introducing the Munar Rover!

The COG is a bit high so this thing has a tendency to flip when breaking.

The panels were added to attempt to prevent this...

Maybe a different angle will work...

Umm... well... I'll add that to the list of rover driving rules: Don't break to fast.

Now I just need a lander to bring it down!

Here's one I prepared earlier!

It's a little big, but it was originally designed for multiple landings on the Mun

Now just to attach the rover and test it out.

Oops... the legs were too short.

Alright, fixed that.

Damn it, still too low.

Now that that's fixed, I just have to get it to the Mun.

Another (probably) wise man said that one of the keys to KSP is to make things as small and light as possible.

Sadly for my accountants, small is not a word that we have in America...

Overkill, what overkill?

Now that we have our launcher and our lander, we are ready to go!

Next time: Will our rover get to the Mun, will it find the memorial, or will the rocket just blow up on the launchpad?
