Firewalker Skids

demonstration of the skids:

Firewalker Skid - a replacement for lander legs or a supplement to weaker wheels. The skid has steering but not propulsion. These will catch the ground sometimes if they are angled enough. They are NOT aircraft landing gear.

edit: aircraft skid part is now included.

Duna Dunegrabber - a metal rover wheel that provides a much more stable experience when you are driving around. It's weighted, and has a nice amount of friction.

Alright I've just updated the original download link with a new part: an aircraft landing gear version of the skid. They are actually really fun to land with. They'll bounce right off the ground at high speed, or you can build enough speed to take off without engines because of ksp's weird physics. I don't aim to build OP parts, but these things are right about there, being as strong as they are at the moment. Here's a vid of some cras - what?

Thanks for the feedback, but the parts are supposed to be simple metal parts, similar to the small stock trusses you see in the screenshots with them. The dunegrabbers are also supposed to be a smooth metal material. If you would like to change the color scheme for your own use the png textures can be easily modified. That said I haven't ruled out any changes to these.

Just updated this pack on spaceport. Something in the configs was going completely over my head, and these are much closer to what I was aiming for. They have a more cushioned feel and have a decent amount of resistance to rolling over because of the new ratio + changed friction. Less collision weirdness too.

love these skids and wheels been using them for polar expeditions, which brings me to a part request.

Would it be possible to make some sort of deployable brake to add to planes or such to add more friction or something?

Sliding over a kilometer over ice on a very slow approach and airbrakes isn't exactly fun XD

Maybe something like the brakes on sleds?

Yeah, it'd need to be a different part though. You could try deploying aircraft wheels to take over and use those to brake (hopefully they would survive that).

Yeah i pretty much knew it would be another part, and short of having another set of wheels to land on instead it doesn't work since it bounces the plane up and tends to smash things.

Presently i'm using dual winches from KAS with anchors that i eject when below 30m/s ground speed to slow down. It's actually rather amusing to watch if not a little slow when having to land more than once :P

So I used to use the aircraft skis, but dropped them as they appeared to glue my aircraft to the runway*, and the wheels were too oddly sized for the rovers I build.

*that might just be my planes, not the skis.

just some ideas/suggestions:

1. Larger dune-grabber variant, perhaps 2-3x the size, slightly slower acceleration and top speed but higher strength and suspension?(Dune-Master)

2. Taller aircraft skis, the current ones are kind of scary for me, as they leave my craft dangerously close to the runway.

3. less...orange?(This means a lot coming from me, because I LOVE orange.)

4. a gear bay for the skis so they don't protrude so much when retracted?

well, thank you for (possibly) seeing this.

These should work: http://www./download/yvdfsjk9h0d60vf/skidgear_Nazari.zip Not sure if I will be making new versions of these yet.
