Can't get the xbox controller sticks to register

Recommended Posts

Having quite a bit of trouble getting the xbox controller to work.

The left and right sticks don't register at all when I'm trying to put the inputs in, and the D-pad and triggers as well.

I simply plugged in my wired 360 controller, and let the driver install itself, but I still don't know how to configure the sticks.

Any help would be appreciated!

Glad you got it working! Do you have a sensible "system" set up? I've been wanting to use my own 360 controller, but I'm at a loss for getting all the controls I'd like, laid out the way I want them.

Basically I want all rotation, translation, throttle, and 'stage' on it... but as the sticks are 2d and not 3d, that means there are two remaining axis to assign, and only one more analog axis (the triggers).

So... one stick is pitch/yaw, one stick Up/Down/Left/Right translation. Then I have to decide what's more important to be analog - roll, or Forward/Back translation?

For throttle adjustment I could just use digital buttons for that (eg not a 'raw' throttle, but throttle UP/DOWN controls like shift/control on the keyboard)

Just in case you wanted my setup:

LB - Throttle Down

RB - Throttle Up

Left Stick - Pitch/Yaw

Right Stick - Roll

Y - Stage

B - Kill Throttle

Back - SAS

Start - RCS

X - Toggle Precision Mode

A - Gears

U/D/L/R - Translate

LT/RT - Translate Fwd/Bkd

Course, doesn't let you do everything, but it's a good start! I guess you could put Translate Fwd/Bkd on the Right Stick instead of LT/RT...

Not bad, but what would bug me is the combination of analog and bang-bang controls (eg translation on d+pad plus triggers)

I had this same freaking problem in IWAR 2 and the whole X series. 'Someone' should really make a controller suitable for such games/sims ;)

Wait a minute...

Does RCS even behave in a throttled manner? Or are the RCS pods ON/OFF? If that's the case I'll just fix up my Saitek X52 - the thing has three POV hats on it so I've plenty of controls available.
