Different strengths and weaknesses, it seems to me. It doesn't look like SPM would let you fly things directly, or let you slap together a completely new design that the developers hadn't thought of.

OTOH, KSP doesn't have a tech tree and research mechanics. (Not yet, anyway; I'm still kind of interested to see how the "discovery" system that they're planning will work.)

I'm eager to try SPM. And it should be obvious that I love KSP. :) But I don't think one has to be exclusive to, or even compete directly with, the other.
