Spacestations and SAS?

When building a spacestation do you want SAS or ASAS in the modules of the station or do you only need one ASAS and leave it at that?

I myself do not add SAS or ASAS to stations as they can induce wobble (over compensating). But others might know how to tune them better.

with v0.21, aren't the SAS supposed to reduce/eliminate wobble?

If yes, time for some space stations redesigns.

With the overhaul both systems have had their behaviour has changed. If I've got it right ASAS will now keep your heading steady, avoids the wobble it used to (.20 and older) 'enjoy', and doesn't have to be turned off to change heading. Very nice

SAS now seems to be a reaction wheel system to help change directions.

So if your station is large both systems in .21 would be beneficial. Remember that they will take electricity so load up on batteries and solar panels!

Thanks for the update there Ferrit. I think the new update was released as I typed.

Will look at the new ASAS (or whatever it is now ), and see if it works better.

Excessive wobble on space stations wasn't so much competing ASAS modules, but rather the torque of a bunch of disparate command pods on the ends of various ships connected around the many docking ports.

However, now the torque of pods is produced by the reaction wheels which should be able to be turned off. So if you do start getting oscillations in your stations, try turning off the reaction wheels on the docked ships, and it should settle down.
