[TVR-400L] How to improve TVR-400L Quad Decoupler resistence

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone !

I'm building a rocket and I try to put 4 cylinders using a quad adapter that I reverse. I launch my rocket and it is always this part that is failing and make my ship explode.

Thankfully, all of my Kerbal are still alive after the explosion thanks to the greatness and genius of the capsule designers.

Anyone already solved this problem ?

I'm not able to put metal bars on this part to keep it in place :/

There is picture showing the part and how I set it up on my rocket:

Thanks !

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

Short answer: MOAR STRUTS!!

Slightly longer answer:You're going to need a lot more strut connectors than what you have there. Here's an example I quickly threw together using your ship as a guide:

Notice how there are struts not only between the fuel tanks in all directions, but also between the stages at the top.

Also a couple pointers from my experience:

1. In this case, you're probably better off going with a 2.5m first stage with a Mainsail engine as opposed to a quad-coupler and four 1.25m's. The 1.25m engines may be more efficient, but you want to push your way out of the thick lower atmosphere as quickly as possible to minimize your dV losses to the atmosphere.

2. You would probably get more efficiency out of that first stage if instead of using solid boosters, you used liquid fuel rockets that crossfed fuel into the centre stack. Not to mention they have throttle control. Usually when I build rockets, I make a very stable design ment for lifting a certain mass. Only if I need to exceed that mass do I start adding solid boosters.

EDIT: I somehow completely missed the fact that there was a middle stage in there...

Thanks a lot for your answer,

I never tryied to add struct between 2 different stages because I through it would be keeping stages together but struts releases when a stage is separated ! Shame on me.

Thanks for your advises too, I'm able to get my Kerbals back now with the crossfed fuel and mainsail engine

Solved ^^
