Update Woes: the case of the dead kermans

Recommended Posts

So I created a new game in KSP for the update, but when I tested a launch the parachute broke and Bill, Bob, and jebediah were Killed in action. SInce they are classified as lost kermans... does that mean they are permanently dead? and if they are... is there any way to bring them back from the dead? I really dont want to create new planes and ships just because I didnt know of the reprocussions in this update. ;.;

Many thanks in advance

Open your persistence file (Notepad is fine) and scroll down to the end of it. There, you will find a list of Kerbals. Bill, Jeb, and Bob, should be at the top of the list. Now, to bring them back to life, simply change their states to "0". Just remember to back up the file just in case something bad happens.

Thanks! I was about to say that that feature of the update would be kind of brutal in sandbox mode, (though In career mode, I wouldnt mind permadeath, it would encourage Testing your rockets with sattelites like the Stayputnik instead of Using Kerbans as Guinea pigs

Actually, Harvester posted in another thread that they'd added a 'difficulty toggle setting' as to if dead kerbals come back or not. It defaults to on, and there's no UI for the toggle at the moment, so they'll come back on their own at some point in time without doing anything. He says you could edit the persistence file to turn it off, but didn't mention how exactly. Though knowing the persistence file, it's probably reasonably obvious.

Having had a quick look at the persistent file it appears there is a toggle that allows reincarnation - or not. By default it is set to allow. I may be reading it wrong but it only seems to be there for Jeb, Bill and Bob, so if you kill any of the new applicants, it's possible that may be permanent.

It also seems to be keeping track of achievements. May not have any significance in this patch but is possibly there for future career mode.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
