Preserving symmetry in action groups

I keep having my action groups act weird lately with them not respecting symmetry.

I'm trying to get a rocketplane to do a once-around (not an orbit, just a flight around the world to land back at KSP) and about half the time when I hit the action group I set up to shut down the jet engines, one side doesn't respond and keeps burning... the resulting asymmetric thrust puts me into a flat spin and I have to eject every time that happens. Very frustrating. :mad:

Is there something that causes action groups to "forget" that there are two engines in a particular selection, or what could I be doing to cause this?

It looks like I have to clear all my action groups whenever I adjust the aircraft if it'll affect a part using symmetry. Alas, the preview will show both engines as effected, but runway tests show you're right. (Dammit.) Good to know; now I have a chance at that one-around.

I don't see that this bug is answered here. There's a "workaround" yes, by checking and rebuilding action groups. But since this workaround is annoying and losing part of the group isn't the intended behavior of the feature it is still an open bug. I can reproduce this bug in .21.1 without removing or moving any parts. Simply reverting to the hangar and then relaunching will cause this bug to manifest. Not every time, but frequently. I have no addons installed. This is a bug I have experienced since at least .19, and maybe even .18

Alright, although because there is a workaround and not a fix yet, it is considered answered becasue it allows players to still continue to play the game and use action groups although a workaround might be tedious it is only temporary.
