How do you make the guns with stock parts, then?

It's tricky.

You try a few dozen different things until you find parts that will basically work. Then you spend hours tweaking the positions and angles in the VAB until they work reliably.

A basic ejector is pretty straightforward. The really tricky part is to find a way of making it easy to use, and being able to carry a lot of ammunition without making your craft look horrible.

In this case the ease of use comes with action groups and reliable geometry. The extra ammo comes from stacking separators right on top of each other. This is less reliable, though (they get stuck sometimes), so there are also a bunch of regularly stacked separators which will always work. The cannon can fire out to a maximum range of 1100m. The missiles can go much further (4000+) and have some limited guideability.
