[Community Project] Operation Julius

Recommended Posts

Operation Julius is a combined project where anyone who wants to join can help us colonize the Jool system. The goal is to create a fully self sustaining network inside the Jool system that can operate all by itself without frequent support from Kerbin. To join, make sure you meet the requirements and post your corporation's request to join in this thread.

Active coporations:

-Sierra Space Industries [sSI]

-Ministry of Improbable Spacecraft [MIS]

-Mun Arch Industries [MAI]

Requirements:

Must have .21.1

Must have Kethane 0.7.4

(contemplating extraplanetary launchpads)

Mission profile:

For anyone who wants to know what you'd be getting into by joining the co-op project, here is the mission profile so far.

Phase 1: Scientific Inquiry

-Launch kethane probes, map Jool system

Phase 2: Scouting

-send probe landers and rovers, identify suitable landing sites.

-send kethane drilling lander, confirm landing zones

Phase 3: Infrastructure

-establish refueling base in parking orbit around Kerbin

-establish orbital research station in Jool system

-establish small research base on surface of at least one Joolian moon.

The mission profile will be updated as we plan more. So far, this is all we have and we will work from there as the situation determines.

To join, post the following information below:

Corporation name

your strengths, what you want to do

your experience with the Jool system

Once you give me this, I will put your name in the list and you can begin working on missions for Operation Julius.

This is my attempt at a community group project. I myself have had ships eaten by the jool system (5 of 6 probes destroyed or lost beyond recovery, all 6 rendered effectively useless). If you are unfamiliar with this gas ball, that is okay. If you are interested in partaking in this endeavor, remember this: This is about having fun, working with others, and expanding your skills of interplanetary colonization.

If you are not a member of the project and have a question or would like to join, post here. If you are a member, it is easier to discuss the operation over group PM and reserve this thread for periodic mission updates and for questions joining players may need to know.

I'll mention it to them. They operate more specifically to Lathe and they also have limited military operations. Julius is meant for the entire system and has no final mission profile. That is to be determined by the people that join as we decide what to do together.

Well, you know me - I (and the Ministry of Improbable Spacecraft) are willing to contribute our expertise in extremely-heavy-lift launch and large spacecraft and mobile base construction (and recent experiments in large-station construction) to your project. You've seen our projects, and we would be willing to undertake large-scale ground and orbital ops as part of Project Julius. One condition we make, though, is that we do not support the militarization of space, and will not construct or use any military hardware or weapons systems.

PM me if you're interested.

You want in, you're in. Now that we have at least a few people, I will update the roster and we can get to work on mission planning. for anyone else joining, I will get to work on some kethane scanning satellites. Bigboy, if I build it, can you put 5 of em on an interplanetary stage? Weight is of no concern. We have NTGOne on the team. If you can build it, we can launch it.

I'd like to propose creating a variant of my Dunebug-class mobile outpost, optimized for Kethane mining - it's mobile, versatile, and maintains a large enough crew to support sustained surface OPS. It's also RemoteTech-enabled (allowing for remote control). About the only thing it can't do is fly (without the skycrane, at any rate).

Your choice,I can do both of them. If you don't have much time to build/launch then I'll do it both.

P.S Ill send you reports of Kethane as soon it is done if you can't do both tasks.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
