Aa-1 icbm

Recommended Posts

Before this technology is revealed, I believe a history lesson is in order.

Many years before ArcticAerospace gained an interest in space, the company worked to fill military contracts. One of these contracts was to develop an ICBM capable of landing nearly anywhere. The competition held saw many different designs, but in the end - the AA-1 ICBM proved victorious. Some historians argue that the high altitude the missile reached was the beginning of the space race, as it proved that many launch techniques are yet to be exploited.

The missile is launched at a high angle to maximize altitude and down range capability. It consists of 4 stages - the long burning launch stage, followed by two short burning stages and a final liquid fueled final stage for last minute tweaking. The aerodynamics are designed so the missile is balanced through all the stages.

As each stage falls away, the missile accelerates faster and faster until it hits just over 1km/sec.

The final stage then propels the warhead to its final destination.

Ever since the Kerbal missile treaties passed, the launcher in its ICBM form fell in popularity and ArcticAerospace began planning for civilian orbital variants.
