KSP Lp Season Six

Hi I'm the Tinfoil Chef. You can call me TFC or Ed, whichever.

I'd been making a Minecraft LP since March 2011 and in August 2012 quite a few subscribers began telling me about this new game called Kerbal Space Program that I should check out.

I got the 0.13.3 demo version and it didn't take more than a minute to realize that this was a game that I just had to have. I couldn't afford it just then (what can I say, I have a problem with being terminally broke on a pathetic scale.) so I started my KSP LP with the demo.

While I'd seen a lot of KSP video by then time I still had a really rough time at first but it was still loads of fun. By the 5th episode I had bought the game (version 0.16 at the time).

Since then I've done four full seasons with each one lasting through version updates until the gamesave was broken.

Season 5 of the youtube LP started with a new gamesave in 0.22. I've learned a lot since I started back in 0.16 but there's still tons more to learn and even more to do. Season 5 will be an intense effort to fulfil the Kerbal destiny of a permanent presence throughout the entire Kerbal star system and eventually (when other systems are added to the game) beyond.

I had some difficulties that made this season take way too long to make only 22 episodes thus far but things are improving and videos will be happening more often

It now continues in 0.23.5 with the ARM update adding more possibilities.

Season 5 will continue until the next time an update breaks previous gamesave compatibility, events reach a logical end of story or until the heat death of the universe.

Starting with episode 23 I'll be posting each new video in this thread, which I should have been doing from the start.

Continuing the recently started project to send unmanned science probes throughout the solar system, the ARM update is released and a class E asteroid is found to be on it's way to an encounter with Kerbin.

getting the ARM-1 ship on a course that will allow it to intercept a class E asteroid well before it enters the Kerbin sphere of influence. I'm also handling the departure of an unmanned science ship to the Jool system.

The Sundiver probe is finally reaching solar periapsis. with it's closest approach at 1.5 kilometers it's moving many times faster than anything else in the Kerbol system

It's finally time to grab the asteroid. It turns out that it's not that hard to do, rather very much like any ordinary docking maneuver except that instead of a ship you're docking with a decent sized chunk of mountain.

It turns out that flying a class E asteroid is no walk in the park. Just keeping it from tumbling out of control is a challenge.

This thing is proving to be something of a problem and I'm running out of time, it's getting too close for easy course changes.

The rendezvous with XBM-519 draws close and it becomes obvious it's not going to work. Time to pick a different target.

I'm getting two ships into position. One for Asteroid WPK-765 and another one to attempt recovering science from Sundiver 1

Ok, I've seen a lot in KSP but I've never seen anything quite like this before

WPK-765 is finally in position for aerobraking at Kerbin

It's finally time to do the last few maneuvers needed to get WPK-765 into LKO. Next up it will be time to get a crew up there to gather samples as it passes over all the Kerbin biomes.

Now that the asteroid is in orbit it should be a simple matter to send up kerbals to get samples as it passes over each biome. This ought to be pretty easy.

in all the time that I've been playing KSP things like launching to orbit and doing a rendezvous have become fairly ordinary, routine kinds of flights. Then this one comes along and I start making all manner of dumb mistakes.

After having some (unwanted) time off from KSP due to a dying computer I'm finally back at it on a new machine.

Now to get down to business with that asteroid . . .

Given the success of the last flight, I've decided to send up a 5 Kerbal ship with the idea of maximizing the amount of science that can be had as the ship passes over different biomes.

Ok, I've managed to fall way behind in updating this thread so I'm going to get caught up in one post.

Episode 38: Continuing the mission from the previous episode I've got to change the asteroid's orbit

Episode 39: After finally getting the asteroid into the new lower orbit we finally get the EVA in gear. Of course, as you might expect, there are complications.

Episode 40: Having finished the first EVA and dealt with the complications and the discovery that asteroid science apparently does not work quite the way I had thought, I've decided to abandon further asteroid work for now and get several interplanetary science vessels built and launched.

Episode 41: with most of the new launches taken care of it's time to concentrate on finishing as many missions as possible and get as much science as I can back to Kerbin. I've got a mission planned but I need at least another 850 science or so before I can get started.

Episode 42: 0.24 is coming soon and I'd like to get as much of the current flights done with as I can before then.

I may add one or two more video(s) here later to finalize Season five. Season six (First Contract) begins in my next post

0.24 has arrived! Not only do we have science, we now have money, and reputation to think about as well. There's also contracts from mission control that can earn all three. Building ships is no longer free because we now have to watch the budget!

Sorry I've been so long between videos. I've had . . . difficulties. Not only that but I never got episode 2 of first contract posted so here it is....

and of course, what brings me here today is episode 3 now that i've finally gotten updated to 0.24.2
