Satellite Question

Recommended Posts

They aren't affected by distance from Kerbin or transmit signals, but they are a way to control crafts without a kerbal and are somewhat lighter than a manned pod. Kerbals are needed for solar panel repairs or wheel replacement, so both have their pros and cons.

Satellites a might serve a greater purpose in the furtue.

There are a few mods that make use of them, however as far as stock goes their only real purpose is to look pretty. But it is what you make of it. If you like to pretend go ahead and put up a dozen communication satellites like I do.

At the moment, there are no communications systems in stock KSP. You can get mods that adds communication functionality to the game. As for probes and satellites I tend to send them to other planets to check out the planets dynamics and such, things like scouting for a good landing spot, or setting how an atmosphere will affect flight. Yes, the tracking station tells you, but you can't really get a feel for it until you flown through it before.
