symmetry rules

is there any way to change which piece has the symmetry set relative to? It is always the first placed piece, but I'm trying to build a rocket where the first piece starts off rotated. Trying to attach boosters doesn't work now because it tries to place the decouplers in the wrong places

i would be an extremely happy camper if there was an update that improved the symmetry, and just the VAB/SPH in general (functionality of course, i know it just got a gorgeous facelift). so that you could switch between bilateral and radial symmetry, etc.. a 12x radial symmetry would be nice too.

Symmetry is always based on the root part (i.e. the first part you select for your rocket in the VAB)

The quick and dirty method is, like Goldham said, to temporarily rotate your root part to get the symmetry you want, then rotate it back. Or, you can check out the 'SelectRoot' plugin. It allows you to change which part is treated as root, on the fly. Makes building complicated rockets a lot easier.
