Can you change the name of the Kerbals some how?

There is no way to do it from within the stock game. You can edit the persistence.sfs save file by hand, alternatively the Kerbal Crew Manifest mod allows you to edit Kerbal names and stats, among other things.

Go to your KSP folder > saves > [your save name] > open persistence.sfs with a text editor, scroll to the bottom of the code until you see this:

			}

Name is self explanatory, brave is courage and is a number between 0 and 1, dumb is stupidity and is a number between 0 and 1, Bads is badass and makes him laugh at death if true. The others have to do with his recruitment status, death, and the like. The recruit thing may also say crew if he is hired.
