Kerbal Uniform colors

How come some kerbals have a white uniform where others have it orange (like Jebediah, Bob etc...). Does it affect in any way the kerbal performance?

I also noticed , some kerbals let go of the stairs as they go into EVA in gravity environments and fall down, where others (Like jebediah , bob and pretty much others in orange suit) stay put grabbing the pod stairs as they unboard the pod.

Are these linked?

The original three, from the earliest versions of the game, are Jebediah, Bill, and Bob. They alone are the wearers of the orange suits.

As for Kerbals letting go of ladders on EVA, it might be (I don't think they've implemented this functionality yet) a factor of their courage and/or stupidity levels, though it is more likely just chance.

Not at all. Bill Jeb and Bob were the three originals, before we had persistence.

It's just a visual thing, as they're exactly the same when on EVA as any other kerbal.
