How much fuel did you have left in your lander? It is definitely easier in my experience to dock craft or at least eva between the two than to land within a 10 k radius, much more fuel efficient also.

I didn't even have enough to get into orbit. Looking back now I wish I had of reloaded the quick save of the rescue ship and try to land closer.
