Is it possible to create my own buildings?

I'd want to create some extra buildings for Kerbin. I plan on putting some extra lights (ALS and PAPI) to the KSC runway, and possibly some other runways. Is it possible to model and then load those objects into the game? If so, how do I do that?

There is a mod called kerbtown which will allow you to do this.
