Robotic rock sampler

Ever wanted to return a probe with a rock sample from Duna? Have the stubby Kerbal mitts let you down once again? Were you wishing for a more precise robotic drill? Would you prefer Jeb to stay on Kerbin dressed as a girl?

Look no further, the Robotic Planetary Sample craft is here to bring back rock samples from Duna, back to Kerbin for SCIENCE! The craft may look lopsided, but I assure you, it's COM is well balanced! (warranty void when decoupled).

Here's a video featuring my latest adventure!

Protip: To launch the Duna ascent stage, first decouple the node from the docking port to release the rocket. Then press 1 to activate the landing legs and bring the rocket into an upright position.

Amazing work. :)

To anybody curious, the clouds are from the Universe Replacer mod. Just search on that thread.

Thanks, I hope you have fun with this one :)

The fuel flow issue in the video was me forgetting to separate the docking port with decouplers. It's been fixed when I started posting in the OP, so you wouldn't need to worry about it :)

*hears Command and Conquer Generals Soundtrack* OMIGOD! EBEEBEBEBEBEJEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEB! *Temporarily dies, transforms into 10 year old child again, finds disk, plays game, realises how terrible it is now, quits game, plays KSP*

Worth it just for soundtrack, but seriously, both that game and this craft are incredible.

I love how you uprighted and launched the Duna ascent vehicle. Looked like ICBM technology.
I like the idea of the dockable heat shield. never thought of that before.

Haha. Thanks, they were kinda hairbrained ideas I had while sitting in the toilet of all places. My mind wanders a lot when I'm taking a long poo :P

@levelord Lovely craft. +1-ed it on youtube too. anyway: I like my clipping and I am wondering how you managed to have this crossed tanks. You used something similar on your LMV

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it :)

I've basically placed cubic octagonal struts on the side and rotated the fuel tanks so that their attachment points align, then I place them there. :)
