I like the Idea of using the struts as landing gear, good shock absorbers.

and you can never forget to put the gear down.

Static struts is way much stronger compare with the landing leg/gear.

Hit them with 80m/s they stay there. (but not other parts of your ship)

Landing leg/gear 20m/s they break apart.
