Recommended Posts

This is a Addon called "More Utilites". The first addition is a Generator that produces Energy and uses a chemical Substance, to produce the Energy.

Known Issues:

-The Radial Attatchable Fuel Tank is faced into the wrong direction, you have to flip it for now. (Will be fixed next release)

- If there are any other Bugs, please report them to me, it would help me a lot. :)

Changelog:
------------/
-Release 1: 17.08.2013
- First Release
- Added 2 Kaleonium Tanks
- Added 2 Kaleonium Converters

-Release 2: x.x.x

And of course, the random copyright stuff:

You're NOT allowed to use my models in any way. (And if you do, ask before you use them. I could think about it)

\!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/

These statements contradict. By releasing this under CC-BY-SA, you're allowing anyone to use your work, including for commercial purposes, as long as they give you credit and don't relicense it. If you want different terms for the configs and the models, you need to specifically give them different licenses.

Ok, thank you for telling me about that, I didn't know about that. :)

But I hope the Forum Members are so nice and don't steal models from someone else. :D

EDIT: I will fix the ReadMe file in the next release, maybe tomorrow with new models. (Smaller Fuel Tank and Bug fixing)

well technically it isn't stealing if the license says you can... but good models.

Stealing assets is a surprisingly uncommon thing so far as I've seen, I could count the number of times on the left hand of an iguana. That said it's very important to pick your license right and be clear about it.

It's also important to use the right words.

An Addon is anything you add to KSP that changes the game, so excluding external programs.

A Plugin is a set of compiled code that runs in game and adds to or alters the behavior of systems and mechanics

What you have here is parts, there's no plugin or mod involved, just assets and configs. To be clear, that's not an insult or anything, you can do a lot without plugins.

As far as what you've actually put out, looks nice, it's a good theme that's it's own, but fits in with the stock stuff. I would say that the roundy bits look worryingly high poly for something so small, maybe that's just me.

Also the shading on them looks odd, but that may just be how close to sundown it was when you took the pictures. I'd say the radial converter is the weakest by a good margin, and you probably want to turn down the intensity on all the glowy bits. (PS, the opposite of 'radial' is 'stack')

You mean the CT-85 Chemical Container? Yeah, the texture is a bit messed up at this point, but I'll fix that too. :)

Edit: Thanks for the clue, I replaced "plugin" with "addon". :)

I had a quick look at these yesterday. It's a decent idea but I think you'll need to tune them a bit yet I think. The 'fuel' consumption seemed rather high for the charge return when compared to the alternatives (kethoelectric or RTG) and it doesn't have much of a weight advantage either. Refueling would be time consuming and require people to add storage for the chemical on stations.

Basically parts like this which add another fuel component face stiff resistance from users because they have to change their designs not just for one particular craft but for stations, tenders etc too. If they aren't compellingly more useful I'm afraid they just won't get used. For comparison, the large RTG from Korda's pack has a mass of 1.5 and delivers 7 charge per second plus it will never run out of fuel.

Kethoelectric covers the heavy users with 75/s so you need to find a niche to aim at. Something small say 2/s, light and only generates when there is drain (watch a kethoelectric in action to see what I mean) is something I would consider for probes.

I see a couple ways that you could offer a collection of generators that get away from the problems of new forms of fuel. So let's see if I can do this with out my tablet wigging out.

1. Gas Turbine: Simple really, add fuel and an oxidizer or jet fuel and air and you get power. Heavy, but they produce varying amounts of power with fuels you have.

2. Fuel Cells: This one has a mod dependency as it would need hydrogen and oxygen to make power. While heavy and expensive, they are extremely efficient and do not need allot of fuel to produce power. Fuel cells are small and would be good if place able radially like a battery.

3. Solar Condenser: A parabolic reflector that condenses light onto a high efficiency solar cell to increase power output.

4. Bio Reactor: A collection of clear tanks that are used to grow algae. The algae is then piped into a processor to create a specific fuel type. This is a game so the actual production rates do not need to be real. But this is a real experimental process. It can also be used to filter CO2 and make O2 for life support systems.

OK done yay and the tablet only messed up a few times. Please comment and be constructive.

If the core idea of your mod is power generation then wouldn't additional tanks be a side track to the goal? I say this only because there are mods that add big tanks, round tanks, procedural tanks...I think the only thing missing are small radial fuel tanks like the mono propellant tanks. Heck, one mod makes tanks universal for the most part, and provides Hydrogen and oxygen as a cryogenic fuel. So I think for the time you have the building blocks there.

Since this is about the generators and not the tanks. That is my opinion any way. I think you have a good idea and if you stay on track making a prototype of each generator and giving it unique and interesting qualities. Then you will have an exciting and winning mod. Hell may be you could even make a Nuclear Power Plant. They have launched those into space from time to time. And no, I am not talking about an RTG. If you stay the coarse and get advice from those that care, I think you can really be up there!
