Ideas for Kerbal Space Center design/layout

Recommended Posts

Hello, first post by the way,*sarcasm* yes I felt so passionately about this that I registered an account to shout my ideas at you through the internet. */Sarcasm*

First off, whoever did the new layout and graphical design for KSC I love it, it looks great. However I have one small problem with it, though the roads and pathways surrounding each building look good, shouldn't there be roads in between? I don't think the top kerbal military brass and super genius scientists want to muddy their shoes or get dirt on their fancy white coats. So yeah, in my opinion roads would be nice.

Thanks for listening.

My understanding is that SQUAD is in the process of adding new buildings / facilities to the space center complex, so it would make sense for them to hold off on interconnecting roads until all of the builds have been finalized.

There's a R&D building coming in .22, and AFAIK, there will be an observatory in the future.

I think the observatory may actually be here pretty soon. Theres an observatory building in the top right of the R&D concept.

And OP I totally agree, but I don't think its high on SQUADs todo list with career mode, resources, and the like.

Since this is also about design i was thinking about adding some trees.

I have no idea about game design but i have one idea which at least from my point of view seems reasonable?

- small 2d Tree-Images that will adapt to the point of view of the player with maybe small stretching etc. to make them seem less 2d

- should take almost no processing power yet make the game look way better?

(especially the Space-Center looks kind of boring)

If you do have the new version, and I bet you do, because of the amazing space center you have there at your screen, you'll seen this Kerbals driving some kind or cars/trucks kind of thing. Elevators moving and many more crazy stuff is going on. If that is in the VAB and or the Space Plane hangar already, imagine the total Space Center someday. As we all know, this game isn't even nearly done yet. Too effected to change. Space Center on his own will change some couple of times for sure. Their will be roads someday. Even for the crazy Kerbals who drive them, and all sorts of things. But you have to see those things as finishing touch details. If the whole Space Center is done, with all the buildings and or features in place we can talk about roads, trees and all sorts of decoration. Right now, we are not even close to that..

I doubt that will happen. You have to watch out and find a reasonable compromise between visuals and memory usage.

Which is why im also wondering about if it wouldnt actualyl be better to have a very low-poly model to see it when you are flying while having an animated nice 2d-version as a menu which would probably also make load-times shorter?

Yes, KSP is hard to handle right now. It's a Alpha, it's forgiven. The code probably isn't that good optimized yet. They probably have to learn some programming stuff along the way. Unity has some issues on that part too. But I look past that. Someday that HAS to be better and or fixed. Otherwise your doomed.. If they want to finish a real, well working Kerbal Space Program version, they can't get away without a 64 bit version, and or without multi-core support. Cause that's the standard now a days. And I know they fight with all power to get at least a 64 bit version to get working property. Because the devs feel there limitations too when it comes to memory usage and stuff like that. I look past that cause with all the problems Kerbal maybe now has, it shouldn't be a problem in the future because it has at least a year, or two or maybe more to even consider finish. And if Kerbal reached that point, it should be running a lot smoother with a lot less memory/CPU problem and limitations as it has right now. So, no excuse..
